Why Train Your Dog?
Undoubtedly, one of the most important things you can do for a companion dog is to train them. Training, handling, and relationship building are the foundations for correcting and preventing many problematic behaviors in our four-legged friends.
Proper and effective training has been proven to improve communication between humans and dogs. Effective communication is necessary to teach a dog. Once the learning process begins, both for the human and the animal, the owner is on the right path to having a more accepted member of the family and a “citizen” dog, as well as a dog that is more likely to make you laugh every day.
Training helps improve the quality of life for both humans and animals. Perhaps this is the most effective way to establish a relationship with the dog.
Training should be enjoyable for both the dog and the human to be effective and successful. Because every minute spent with the dog, assuming it’s not sleeping, is a learning opportunity, there is little difference between training and playing.
Our method of training is based on a theory rather than the prevalent model of the wolf pack. If you choose to control the resources, then you can control the dog. Once the dog understands that you control all the resources and that they have to earn them, you’ve already begun training.
You don’t need to establish yourself as the “alpha dog” or “pack leader”. You don’t need to deal with “dominance” and “submission”. You don’t need to use coercion to train your dog, even if there are those who say you can’t train without the use of violence.
The choke chain is the first example of traditional training tools that do more harm than good. In a recent study in Germany, 96% of dogs that spent their lives with a choke chain suffered some degree of injury to the trachea. Making the rational use of violence in training is a significant barrier to compassionate training and contributes to the breakdown of many human-dog relationships. Instead, a pleasant learning process can define and enrich the dog-human relationship and make their life together more enjoyable.
