Dogs and Internet
By Ilias Raymondis, Professional Positive Reinforcement Trainer
For quite some time now, I’ve been noticing advertisements on TV that have caught my interest. I’m referring to the effort being made to inform us about the dangers of the internet. Some of the most important points they are trying to inform us about are:
- Be careful with the disclosure of personal data.
- Be cautious about gathering information from unreliable sources.
- Beware of the “addiction” to the internet.
The reason I mention this is because I have many friends and acquaintances who, driven by something they saw or someone said on the internet, tried doing A or B with their dog… but it didn’t work, or it worked but then the dog started doing this or that…
I’m not saying that everything on the internet is dangerous or wrong. However, knowing who is reporting it and where their knowledge comes from is more or less in our hands. The internet is a tool that helps us access information. The extent to which this information is valid or not…
Use the internet to access information and your mind to judge if it’s worthwhile. Who is offering it? Can you contact them in the real world? Are they responsible for what they say? Do they take any responsibility? And most importantly, even if they take some responsibility, where do they get their knowledge from? Have they studied? How long have they been involved in the subject of their advice?
